Anxiety is a common condition that can take many forms, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety, and specific phobias. Left untreated, anxiety can significantly interfere with daily life and overall quality of life. Our goal is to provide a personalized treatment plan that addresses both the symptoms and underlying causes of anxiety.
Pharmacologic options for anxiety often include medications like SSRIs or SNRIs, which help to regulate mood and anxiety levels, or benzodiazepines, which may be used on a short-term basis to alleviate acute symptoms. We will carefully assess the best medication for your specific needs, aiming for the most effective results with the least amount of side effects.
Nonpharmacologic therapies are also a key component of anxiety treatment. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been shown to be particularly effective in helping patients challenge irrational thoughts and behaviors that contribute to anxiety. Exposure therapy, a form of CBT, gradually exposes patients to feared situations in a controlled manner to reduce avoidance behaviors. Relaxation techniques, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and grounding exercises may also be introduced to help you manage stress and anxiety in everyday situations. We work with you to develop strategies that promote relaxation, enhance coping skills, and reduce anxiety triggers.
